‘Sub’conscious Mind
Meditation, trance and hypnotherapy access your deeper mind, your subconscious. It is like a hard-drive that stores all your experiences, patterns, unquestioned beliefs and human potential.

The brain's tail
In yoga, your mind is not limited to your brain. Your brain has a tail, the spinal chord and nervous system that extends into your body. Your mind is in your whole body.
Embodied intelligence
The body’s intelligence is mostly automatic, therefor mostly unconscious. It senses everything in its surrounding and stores information intuitively.
In the Anahata Tradition this unconscious intelligence is governed by ‘Shakti’ the feminine principle. In modern-western terms it is the subconscious mind.
The conscious awareness is governed by ‘Shiva’ the masculine principle. In modern terms it is the conscious mind.
'Sub'
‘Sub’conscious means below the level of consciousness, that which drives and informs the conscious.
Since your subconscious mind is imprinted by all your experiences, it stores your projections, emotional triggers and unquestioned beliefs. This influences your behavior, what you feel and how you think.
True inner change can only take place when this deeper, fundamental level of your mind is also transformed. Hypnotherapy and trance meditation work with this level of the mind.
Meditation
Meditation is the state of awareness where these dual qualities of the mind are merged, conscious and subconscious.
There are countless different techniques, practices, terminologies that all work with this principle. The state of meditation has many depths, many levels of this awareness.
Contrary to popular belief, accessing the subconscious is not determined by brainwave states. The subconscious can be accessed in any brainwave state. All you need is an opening and allowing (subconscious) held with a gentle focus (conscious).
